Our Mission

Yamhill-Carlton Shelter Coalition plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being and safety of all residents within our community area. As a shelter coalition, one of our missions is to advocate for the health, safety, and welfare of all our community members. In times of disaster, this dedication becomes even more crucial, as we work to hold the city accountable and provide essential support and resources to all community residents.

In addition to our advocacy work, our Shelter Coalition also offers ongoing disaster classes to equip all community residents with the knowledge and skills needed to handle emergencies and disasters effectively at our shelter. Other classes are designed to empower individuals and families to be proactive in safeguarding themselves, their neighbors, and their community in the face of unexpected events. By promoting preparedness and resilience, Y-C Shelter Coalition contributes to creating a safer and more secure environment for everyone in our community with knowledge and ongoing training and understanding.

In times of crisis, such as natural disasters or emergencies, having a designated community shelter can make a significant difference in ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected. Our Y-C Shelter Coalition collaborates with the city of Yamhill, the city of Carlton, Yamhill County agencies, community non-profits, local faith-based organizations, and local volunteers to identify, establish, and manage the Y/C High School Gym as a shelter where residents can seek refuge and receive assistance during times of emergencies or disasters. By helping to provide this essential service, the Y-C Shelter Coalition demonstrates its commitment to serving the whole community and supporting all community individuals in times of emergencies and natural disasters.
